Jewellery Quarter Lobby

In December 2009, all four of the Jewellery Quarter Regeneration Partnership staff were made redundant leading to uncertainty of the Jewelry Quarter’s future and thus the formation of the Jewelry Quarter Lobby.

The regeneration councilor, Neville Summerfield, responded to the Jewellery Quarter Lobby with a letter vaguely outlining the council’s plans for the Jewelry Quarter.

In response to the Jewellery Quarter Lobby, Neville Summerfield claimed:

“The City Council remains committed to the Jewellery Quarter and will continue to support it in every way it can

“In coming years investment from the City Council in capital projects and the maintenance of its property will be circa £4m”

Summerville also stated that his “staff are preparing an Action Plan which will help us support the Quarter and monitor activity”

Building Conservation.

Whilst researching a story on the Jewellery Quarter, I found some useful links regarding the conservation of buildings.

The Birmimgham Conservation Trust seems to be the best way to keep up to date on what’s going on conservation wise in Birmingham.

The Jewellery quarter Lobby are working on trying to secure the future of the Jewellery Quarter and their website is a good way of keeping up to date on what they are getting up to.

I will be using this space to post about the environment in Birmingham.
More specifically, I’ll be posting news, events and features regarding the conservation of Birmingham’s environment.

So far, I have done some initial research into conservation in Birmingham and have found some interesting websites which can be found here

From this initial reseach, I have learnt that conservation can be split into the conservation of wildlife and nature, but also the conservation buildings. Whilst it may not seem environmentally beneficial to conserve buildings, if it is the difference between a 17th century farm house and an intimidating tower block, then I’d say it is definitely worthwhile from an environmental point of view.
